Looking to make a difference in the lives of teens and live in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains? Look no further!-- Job Description Under the supervision of the District Executive Director, the Teen Initiatives Director will assist in the planning, supervision, and implementation of well-rounded, high quality and innovative youth, camp, teen and youth development programs.The programs developed will strive to meet the social, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development needs of youth and teens at the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg. Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Education, Human Services, or related field desired. - Minimum of two years' experience developing, implementing and evaluating programs for youth and teens. - Minimum of one year supervisory experience. - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. - Creative thinker with a history of applying innovation in programming. - Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build community relationships. - Basic skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. - Must be organized, with strong attention to detail. - Ability to manage programs to a diverse population. - Ability to teach/lead teens and adults. - Ability to supervise and instruct other staff in all program areas. - Flexible, highly organized, and patient individual. Essential Functions - Summer Day Camp - Programs currently running and would like to continue: Counselor in Training (CIT) - With current Child Care Directors, assist in the set-up and supervision of program (i.e. hiring and training staff, developing curriculum and leadership programming). Leaders Club - Develop program built on providing year-long leadership development for middle and high school teens - Introduce teens to all the Y does to strengthen our community - Inspire service learning through key partnerships with community leaders and businesses - Facilitate service projects in the local community and provide larger service and learning projects outside of local community 1 to 2 times per year. Middle School / High School Programming - Middle School After School - Plan and implement program at key locations to engage youth in well-rounded and hands-on curriculum geared towards developing spirit, mind and body. - Middle School Madness - Plan and implement activities for weekend engagement.Hire and supervise staff/volunteers. - Create additional programming within the community based on your experience and knowledge. - Continuous knowledge and awareness of latest trends relative to population served. - Develop, implement, and oversee program activities and events which meet the needs of the community. - Recruit, coordinate, and assist in training of staff/volunteers. - Actively network with middle school youth/high school youth to recruit representative population of participants at YMCA programs, facility, and events. - Plan and implement week long vacation camp program for middle schoolers. Y Achievers - Develop program for underserved teens on a career and college prep course. - Create community engagement to spearhead a mentor program built on showing teens the opportunities that lie ahead - college, military, trades, and/or direct entry into the workforce. - Create an encouraging and supportive environment for teens to develop positive self-esteem and pursue excellence. General Administration - Develop and maintain assigned program budget lines and take appropriate action to maintain the fiscal integrity of the department. - Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as needed. - Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Committee and Community Relations - Network with outside groups and organizations to promote YMCA programming and events. - Promote the YMCA to the community.Represent the YMCA's interests to community organizations and special interest groups-particularly youth-oriented groups. - Get involved with at least one YMCA committee. - Interact with representatives and students from the Spartanburg County private and public schools (preschools, elementary and high school)as often as necessary to promote YMCA events and programs. - Mission and Community Oriented:Models and teaches YMCA values. Champions inclusion activities, strategies and initiatives. Ensures high-level services that differentiate the YMCA from other providers. Provides volunteers with orientation, training, development and recognition. - People Oriented:Empathetically listens and communicates for understanding when negotiating and dealing with conflict. Builds relationships to create small communities. Effectively tailors communications to the appropriate audience. Provides staff/ volunteers with feedback, coaching, guidance and support. - Results Oriented:Holds staff/ volunteers accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress. Conducts prototypes to support the launching of programs and activities. Develops plans and manages best practices through engagement of team. Cultivates relationships to support fundraising. Effectively manages budgets. - Personal Development Oriented:Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Shares new insights. Facilitates change; models adaptability and an awareness of the impact of change. Required Certifications - Must stay current in ASHI and/or Red Cross CPR/First Aid/Oxygen certifications, renewed annually.
