Find Great People, LLC has been retained by Spartanburg Methodist
to hire a new Director of Human Resources.Spartanburg Methodist
College is a private residential institution offering associate and
baccalaureate degrees within the United Methodist Connection. At
SMC, lives are transformed in a values-oriented, student-centered
atmosphere in the Christian tradition that encourages academic
excellence, intellectual exploration, social awareness, and
character development within the liberal arts tradition.
Human Resource Director
The Human Resource Director will serve as a strategic partner
across campus to implement an effective and progressive human
resources program that supports the colleges effort to develop and
maintain a positive work culture, to build capabilities amongst
employees, and to attract and retain talented employees who embody
the colleges mission. In addition, the HR Director will be
responsible for developing policies and procedures for the Human
Resources staff, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of
the organizations mission and talent strategy.
The Human Resources Director will have the unique opportunity to
focus on culture development during a time of growth and expansion
for the college. Creating a dynamic, forward thinking, and
progressive culture is a priority for the President and the
leadership team, and the Human Resources Director will play a

Provides supervision of the Human Resources staff members and
manages the daily workflow of the department. Develops procedures
that allow for effective delivery of HR programs. Identifies
talented human resources professionals to join the HR team, when
appropriate, through recruiting and interviewing activities that
allow for appropriate vetting and consideration of alignment with
the colleges culture, mission, and values. Manages the performance
of the human resources staff, providing timely feedback,
coaching/mentoring, and access to professional development
opportunities when appropriate. Facilitates training and
certification activities when applicable. Conducts periodic and
annual performance evaluations. Leads annual goal setting
activities for each staff member. Develops performance improvement
plans and handles discipline and termination of employees when

Collaborates with the President and the senior leadership team to
understand the colleges goals related to staffing, recruiting, and
retention. Develop innovative strategies to attract a dynamic
talent pool of faculty and staff members who will contribute to an
inspiring, creative culture across campus. Identifies talent needs
by establishing a partnership with department leaders to understand
their department workload, needs, or gaps in knowledge/skill set.
Develops and executes best practices for hiring processes,
retention, and long-term talent management. Utilizes the colleges
HRIS system to analyze trends and responds to any findings. Ensures
hiring and onboarding process supports identifying potential
employees whose experiences and soft skills sets align with both
the position being filled as well as the values of the college.
Addresses perceived culture issues and actively collaborates with
faculty and staff in implementing initiatives that support a
positive work culture and empower employees. Assists department
leaders in creating safe environments for employees to explore new,

Develops and implements human resources policies and procedures.
Provides training to department leaders and managers regarding
human resources policies relevant to their departments and staff.
Ensures human resources program remains in compliance with all
federal and state regulations. Modifies policies and procedures as
needed to maintain compliance with legal requirements and industry
best practices. Creates feedback mechanisms, such as employee
surveys, that allow for timely communication of employee needs and
perception of culture across the campus. Oversees the
administration of human resource programs including compensation,
benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and
investigations; performance and talent management; productivity,
recognition, and employee morale; occupational health and safety;
and training and development. Maintains knowledge of trends, best
practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human
resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this
knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources
to upper management. Develops and implements departmental
Required Education and Experience
Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or
related field is required. Masters degree is preferred. Five or
more years of human resource management experience required.
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR highly preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent
interpersonal and negotiation skills. Excellent organizational
skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills
with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and
problem-solving skills. Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Ability to adapt to the needs of the college and its employees.
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate when appropriate.
Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn HRIS and talent
