Sensory Quality Technician - Beverage Quality

The Sensory Quality Technician works independently to support the preparation of ingredients and finished goods for sensory evaluation, testing, data entry for tracking, reporting and documentation. The Sensory Quality Technician provides general administrative support to ensure team readiness for growth and also supports the sensory staff and leaders in the evaluation of ingredients and existing products and the compliance of multi-site production with established quality standards and protocols. The Sensory Quality Technician participates in sensory evaluation of ingredients and finished goods.

This is a full-time position based at our facility in Spartanburg, SC. The standard schedule would be Monday - Friday from approximately 8am - 5pm EST. Additional flexibility to work beyond these hours according with changing business needs is required as scheduled.

This is an exempt, salaried position paid on a bi-weekly cycle. Compensation is flexible according to candidate's experience level and is determined throughout the interview process. An attractive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401k, etc.) is available immediately.

What you will do:

  • Administer Sensory ingredients and finished good testing maintaining operation of a World Class Sensory lab on a daily basis.
  • Support coordination of receipt and review of samples from multiple production sites and ingredient suppliers for testing and evaluation. Register samples into the existing tracking systems, build tests, recruit internal tasters and execute panels in a timely manner.
  • Daily participation in all sensory activities including ingredient evaluation and tasting of finished good products
  • Follows up on findings with appropriate parties.
  • Prepare and set up samples and rooms for sensory tasting events, including analytical, physical evaluation and sample preparation.
  • Follows all safety policies and general housekeeping practices. Ensures the area and its equipment and supplies are neat.
  • Support sensory staff and leaders with samples and assistance when and where needed.
  • Support of general sensory activities and training sessions for the ingredients and finished goods.
  • Calibrate and maintain lab equipment such as moisture analyzers, scales, brewers, thermometers, pH meter, etc.

Requirements

What you must have:

  • Bachelors degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field OR Associate degree with previous sensory experience highly preferred. Individuals with Food Industry experience, coffee manufacturing/roasting, or Sensory training may substitute such experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated sensory skills with the ability to differentiate and describe an array of aroma and flavor attributes and a desire to learn and become certified in sensory and tasting skills.
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, with attention to detail, manage time, and to work independently.
  • Ability to operate analytical lab equipment, such as sample roasters, moisture meters, brewers, grinders, Agtron and Mocon machines, etc.
  • Ability to perform standardize work with repetitive task and motion.
  • Ability to uphold Safety standards, participates in Continuous Process Improvement on the job, and follows our Manufacturing best practices.
