Where the Chemistry Happens Maintenance Technician Apprentice We proudly provided apprenticeship opportunities to candidates looking to advance their career in the chemical manufacturing industry. BASF's North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP) is strongly committed to attracting talented candidates like YOU to join our manufacturing workforce, where you will have the opportunity to grow your career through great work experiences further enhanced through on the job training and skills development. As part of BASF's North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP), apprentices participate in a 12-month program offering hands-on work experience in BASF's chemical manufacturing plants while attending community college to earn a company paid certificate in Mechatronics. While participating in the NAADP, apprentices will be offered paid tuition, wages, and access to benefits. After the successful completion of the NAADP, apprentices will have earned a certificate in Mechatronics and received on the job training directly related to the BASF Maintenance Technician roles. Potential start date is August 16 th of 2021. Apprentices will report to the Operations Manager who, along with the assigned sites' manufacturing staff, will support the Apprentice throughout the NAADP. Maintenance Technician Apprentice - 2101485 - Spartanburg, SC (Converse Site) At the BASF Converse Plant, we recycle catalytic converters to obtain the precious metals contained within. As part of our team, employees help us improve our technologies and processes to help make our facility safer and more efficient. Our maintenance department plays a vital role in the success of our plant. Major Responsibilities: Troubleshoot and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues Provide technical support for all machine modifications and program changes Perform and ensure Preventative Maintenance (PM's) are completed per schedule Make recommendations on PM program changes for machines and verify implementation Make recommendations to improve maintenance and production operations Close out work orders in SAP for all production equipment Light fabrication skills (MIG/stick welding, etc.) Ability/knowledge to perform facility repairs (plumbing, filter changes, lighting, minor electrical, etc.) Miscellaneous additional repair/support as needed While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is high (& 85dB) While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is often required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The use of personal protection equipment is required including, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and gloves. Ability to work 3rd shift with some overtime and call-ins Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Basic Qualifications:

A minimum of one year of work experience where you

  • exhibited the ability to learn on the job and use provided equipment/tools - followed both written and verbal procedures/instructions - complied with operational and safety guidelines - demonstrated the ability to work independently and as part of a team Preferred Qualifications:

High school Diploma or GED (those not possessing a Diploma or GED will be required to obtain one (with tuition assistance available from BASF) before moving to any other role at BASF)
